Catalytic Converter Replacement LE5 With MH8

Warning: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Warning in the Preface section.

Warning: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning in the Preface section.

1. Raise and suppore the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
2. Remove the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.



3. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).
4. Separate the exhaust pipe (2) from the catalytic converter studs.
5. Position and support the exhaust pipe (2) out of the way.



6. Remove the converter to bracket bolt (1).
7. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (3).
8. Remove the catalytic converter (2) and gasket. Discard the Catalytic converter gaskets.

1. Install a NEW gasket to the catalytic converter.
2. Position the catalytic converter (2) to the exhaust manifold and converter bracket.
3. Loosley install the converter to manifold nuts (3) and converter bracket bolt (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Tighten the converter to manifold nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
5. Tighten the Converter to bracket bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).



6. Install a NEW gasket between the converter and exhaust pipe (2).
7. Connect the exhaust pipe to the converter and tighten the nuts (1) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
8. Install the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.
9. Lower the vehicle
