Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning in the Preface section.

    Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.

  6. Disconnect the oil level/temperature sensor electrical connector (1).

  7. Object Number: 1951034  Size: SH
  8. Remove the engine oil lever sensor (1) from the oil pan (2).

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1951034  Size: SH
  1. Install the engine oil level sensor (1) to the oil pan (2) and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  2. Object Number: 1954097  Size: SH
  3. Connect the oil level/temperature sensor electrical connector (1).
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Replace the engine oil and oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
  6. Reset the GM Oil Life System. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.
