Info - Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Normal Operating Characteristics

Subject:Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Normal Operating Characteristics

Models:2004 Pontiac GTO

This bulletin is being published to advise dealers of two normal operational characteristics of the RKE system that may lead customers to believe the system is faulty.

In the first instance, if a driver exits the vehicle and locks it with the remote, and the passenger door is open, the vehicle will not lock. The horn will chirp three times to indicate that the doors are not properly locked and this warning signal will occur again on each successive press of the lock button on the key fob. To reset the system, press and hold the door unlock button for five seconds. Both doors can now be locked. In order to bypass this condition, the personalization settings must be changed. Refer to Vehicle Personalization in the Owner's Manual.

The second issue is when the customer presses the lock and/or unlock button multiple times. This will cause the key fob to become out of sequence with the RKE receiver. When this occurs, the key fob will not operate until it is re-sequenced.

In order to correct a key fob that is out-of-sequence, follow these steps:

  1. While seated in the vehicle, press and hold the unlock button on the key fob.
  2. While still pressing the unlock key on the fob, insert the ignition key into the ignition switch and turn the key to the ON position.
  3. Once the Driver Information Center (DIC) cycles, release the unlock button.
  4. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key.

The key fob should now operate both doors.
