Subject: | 2004-2005 GTO RKE Inoperative Diagnosis |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
RKE inoperative.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Test the fob with the key fob tester. If fobs fail the test, replace the key fobs.
- Install the Key fob tester in the vehicle and scan for unwanted signal. Check for any aftermarket add-ons. (Cell phone charger)
- While tester is still in vehicle, depress the un-lock or lock button on the key fob and check if the fob tester receives the signal.
- Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle build the vehicle. Select:

Note: If the doors lock and unlock with the scan tool, go to step 5. If the doors do not lock and unlock, diagnose the power locks.
- Select:

5.3. | Monitor last key fob input and driver and passenger door lock input, while pressing the key fob buttons. If the data changes when depressing the buttons on the fobs and the door locks do not operate, replace the BCM. If the data does not change,
insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the key on and check for valid key while monitoring the BCM data input/output in the tech 2 should read valid. |
- Hold the key fob over the RKE/sunload sensor in the middle of the dash and depress the key fob buttons. If there is no operation of the locks, Inspect connections at the RKE/sunload sensor harness to BCM. If the concern persists replace the RKE/sunload
sensor and recheck operation.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
