Subject: | Power Steering Shudder on Automatic Transmission Equipped Vehicles |
Models: | 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO |
This PI has been revised to state that the condition is normal. Please discard PIC3824.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
With the vehicle stopped, transmission in gear, engine at idle, foot on brake, and the steering wheel turned to the lock, the steering wheel may shake slightly and a shudder may be felt in the floor pan.
As soon as you take your foot off the brake pedal and allow the vehicle to roll slightly, the shudder should no longer be present. In most parking lot maneuvers with the vehicle rolling the concern is not present. This should be considered a normal operating characteristic. Do NOT replace any parts for this concern.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
