Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Caution in the Preface section.
Important: Before beginning the repair, refer to
Metal Panel Bonding
for proper adhesive applicator preparations
and general information.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
in SIR.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove all related panels and components.
- Repair as much of the damage as possible to factory specifications. Refer
to
Dimensions - Body
.
Caution: Refer to Foam Sound Deadeners Caution in the Preface section.
- Note the location and remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the
repair area, as necessary. Refer to
Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
in Paint/Coatings.
- Remove the outer and inner rear end panels. Refer to
Rear End Panel Replacement
.
- Locate and mark all factory welds attaching
the rear compartment floor panel to the rear floor panel and the rear side lower rails.
- Note the number and location of welds for installation of the rear compartment
floor assembly.
Important: As this structural adhesive material is extremely
hard, this area may require cutting.
- Structural adhesive is applied to the area shown (1) between the rear
side rail lower assemblies and the rear floor panel.
- Locate and mark all factory welds attaching
the rear compartment floor panel outer extensions from the rear wheelhouse panel,
rear quarter panel, and the rear end panel assemblies.
- Note the number and location of welds for installation of the rear compartment
floor assembly.
- Drill out all factory welds.
- Do not damage the following components:
- Remove the damaged floor section.
Installation Procedure
- Prepare the mating surfaces as necessary.
- Inspect for proper fit.
- Drill 8-mm (5/16-in) plug weld holes as necessary in the locations noted
from the original floor assembly.
- Position the service assembly and inspect for proper fit.
- Apply 3M Weld-Thru Coating P/N 05916, or equivalent, to all mating
surfaces.
Important: The adhesive has a 40-50 minute
working time. Do not allow the rear compartment floor panel to totally cure off the
vehicle, as proper alignment of the rear compartment floor panel to the rear floor
will be difficult.
- Apply a 3-6 mm (1/8-1/4 in) bead of metal panel bonding
adhesive (1) GM P/N 12378566/7 (Canadian P/N 88901674/5),
or equivalent, between the rear side lower rail and the rear compartment floor panel.
- Install the rear compartment floor panel assembly, ensuring it is seated
under the left-hand rear floor panel reinforcement.
- Plug weld accordingly.
- Install the quarter panel. Refer to
Quarter Panel Replacement
.
- Install the inner and outer rear end panels. Refer to
Rear End Panel Replacement
.
- Clean and prepare all welded surfaces.
- Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as
necessary. Refer to
Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
in Paint/Coatings.
- Paint the repair area. Refer to
Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems
in Paint/Coatings.
- Install all related panels and components.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
in SIR.
