Rubbing Noise That Can Be Heard When Turning - keywords a/c ac air conditioning noise run shaft steer steering suspension

Subject:Rubbing Noise That Can Be Heard When Turning

Models:2004-2005 Pontiac GTO

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Noise can be heard when turning the steering wheel due to a rub condition between the A/C line and steering shaft.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Secure the A/C line to the insulated brake pipe using a wire tie.

Note: The concern was corrected in production on June 13, 2005. There was a redesign of A/C pipe with added bends near the front rail clip. The additional bend acts as the stopper preventing the pipe from moving forward and contacting the steering shaft.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
