Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Evaporative Emission Control System Description .
  3. Loosen 2 intake duct clamps (3), then remove the duct.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  6. Disconnect the 2 heater hoses (1) and the inlet  (2) and outlet (3) hoses from the water pump.

    7. Object Number: 1284355 Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 bolts (1) from the drive belt tensioner (2).

    8. Object Number: 1284358 Size: SH
  8. Remove the water pump as follows:
    9. 8.1. Remove the 6 water pump retaining bolts (1).
    8.2. Remove the water pump (2).
    8.3. Remove the water pump gaskets (3) and discard.
  9. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surface.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the water pump as follows:

    1.1. Position the water pump gaskets (3) to the water pump.
    1.2. Position the water pump (2) to the cylinder block.
    1.3. Install the 6 water pump retaining bolts  (1). Progressively tighten the water pump retaining bolts in 2 steps:

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the water pump retaining bolts, first pass, to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the water pump retaining bolts, second pass to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  2. Install the 2 bolts (1) to the drive belt tensioner (2).

    3. Object Number: 1284351 Size: SH
  3. Connect the 2 heater hoses (1) and the inlet (2) and outlet (3) hoses to the water pump.
  4. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  5. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
  6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Evaporative Emission Control System Description .

    7. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
