Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  2. Remove the positive cable from the fuseblock:
  3. 2.1. Open the positive cable cap.
    2.2. Remove the positive cable nut at the fuseblock.
    2.3. Remove the positive cable from the stud.
  4. Remove the positive cable cover from the cable.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Remove the positive cable from the generator:
  8. 5.1. Slide the boot back along the cable.
    5.2. Remove the positive cable nut at the generator.
    5.3. Remove the positive cable from the stud.

  9. Remove the positive cable from the starter solenoid:
  10. 6.1. Remove the positive cable nut (3) at the starter solenoid.
    6.2. Remove the positive cable from the harness conduit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the positive cable to the harness conduit.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the positive cable nut (3) at the starter solenoid.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable nut at the starter solenoid to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the positive cable to the generator:
  6. 3.1. Install the positive cable to the stud.
    3.2. Install the positive cable nut at the generator.

    Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable nut at the generator to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    3.3. Slide the boot over the generator stud.
  7. Install the positive cable cover to the cable.
  8. Install the positive cable to the stud on the fuseblock:
  9. 5.1. Install the positive cable to the stud.
    5.2. Install the positive cable nut at the fuseblock.

    Tighten
    Tighten the positive cable nut at the fuseblock to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

    5.3. Close the positive cable cap.
  10. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
