Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

2

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the wiper switch to the LO, HI, and INT positions.

Do the front wipers operate in the LO, HI, and INT positions?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

Do the wipers operate in the LO and HI position, but not the INT position?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

4

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the wiper switch to the affected speed.
  4. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the corresponding voltage supply circuit at the wiper motor connector for ignition positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 5

5

  1. Turn the wiper switch to the affected speed.
  2. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the corresponding voltage supply circuit at the wiper/washer switch for ignition positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 16

Go to Step 11

6

  1. Turn the wiper switch to the INT position.
  2. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the front intermittent wiper switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) at the wiper/washer switch for ignition positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 11

7

With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the front intermittent wiper switch signal circuit to the BCM at the BCM wiring harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 14

8

  1. Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage drop across the wiper dwell from the BCM wiper dwell input to a known good ground. Refer to Measuring Voltage Drop .
  2. While rotating the wiper dwell from minimum to maximum and back observe the voltage drop across the wiper dwell.

Does the voltage range from 0-5 volts?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 13

9

With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the front intermittent wiper signal circuit from the BCM at the wiper switch assembly.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF and increase or decrease the time between ON and OFF as the wiper dwell is increased or decreased?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 10

10

With a test lamp connected to a good ground, test the front intermittent wiper signal circuit from the BCM at the wiper dwell.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF and increase or decrease the time between ON and OFF as the wiper dwell is increased or decreased?

Go to Step 15

Replace BCM

11

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
