This bulletin has been revised to change the scanner I.D. number for the automatic transmission. This bulletin cancels and replaces 89-6-71A issued 5/90.
Some owners of 1989 Grand Am models may comment of a highway engine surge condition. This condition may be repaired with the installation of a new EGR Valve Package, P/N 17112238 (which contains EGR valve, P/N 17090078 and a gasket). A new calibration PROM must be installed with the EGR valve package as a set. The new Calibration PROM is identified as follows:
