Notice: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment may cause brake drag, heat buildup and excessive brake lining wear.

Important: Adjust the stoplamp switch and the cruise control switch at the same time. The adjustment procedure for both switches is identical. Refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Adjustment in Cruise Control.

With the brake pedal in the fully released position, ensure that the stoplamp plunger is fully depressed against the brake pedal shanks.

  1. Remove the driver side instrument panel insulator.

  2. Object Number: 385279  Size: SH
  3. Insert the stoplamp switch (1) into the retainer until the switch body seats on the retainer.

  4. Object Number: 240492  Size: SH
  5. Pull the brake pedal upward against the internal pedal stop. For the diagnosis of the stoplamp circuit, refer to Stop Lamps Inoperative in Lighting Systems.
  6. Turn the switch 90 degrees clockwise in order to lock the switch into position.

  7. Object Number: 385275  Size: SH
  8. Connect the electrical connection to the stoplamp switch.
  9. Install the driver side instrument panel insulator.
