SEAT BACK RATTLE NOISE REPLACE PIVOT BOLT-P/N LISTED

VEHICLES AFFECTED: EARLY 1987 A,J,N,F, G AND P MODELS EQUIPPED WITH BUCKET SEATS

A seat back rattle noise at the seat back locking pivot bolt, may be encountered on some early 1987 A, J, N, F, G, and P models equipped with bucket seats.

This condition is caused by the use of a long shouldered pivot bolt and a short bushing which allows the seat back latgch to slide off the bushing and rattle against the pivot bolt.

To eliminate the rattle, replace the pivot bolt with a new one P/N 20359309 and transfer the bushing to the new bolt. If a new bolt is not available install a 4 mm thick flat washer under the head of the existing pivot bolt.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
