1988 GRAND PRIX GLOVE BOX LOCK
The 1988 Grand Prix has a combination glove box lock as standard equipment. This type of lock has some new and unique features.
The combination should be set at "000" from the factory.
To change the combination, move the latch release lever to the right and then move the orange tab up. This will lock the latch release lever and allow any combination to be dialed into the lock. Push the orange tab down and the new combination is set.
If you forget the combination, there is a small key that looks like a feeler gauge with notches in one end which will allow you to find the combination. Insert the key on the right side of each dial then rotate the dial until the key is seated. After this is done for the three dials you will have the forgotten combination and the glove box will open.
For obvious reasons the key should not be left in the glove box.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
