  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Replace the brake fluid level sensor. Refer to Fluid Level Sensor in Master Cylinder.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the park brake switch.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Replace the park brake switch. Refer to Parking Brake Switch in Parking Brake.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

--

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) control module connector C2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 6

  1. Check for a short to ground in circuit 1134.
  2. If OK, replace the DRL control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lamp Module in Lighting Systems and Horns.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

System OK

Disconnect the ignition switch.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

--

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 8

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly in Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) Tilt Steering Column.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

--

System OK

--

  1. Check for a short to ground on circuit 33.
  2. If OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
