The DTCs in the EBTCM memory are erased in one of two ways:
• | Are erased by the scan tool method. |
• | Are erased by ignition cycle default. This requires 100 ignition cycles to pass with no detection of the DTCs. |
Always verify the proper system operation and always verify absence of DTCs when the clearing procedure is completed.
The following methods will not clear DTCs:
• | DTCs cannot be cleared by unplugging the EBTCM. |
• | DTCs cannot be cleared by disconnecting the battery cables. |
• | DTCs cannot be cleared by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position. However, DTCs can be cleared on the 100th cycle of the ignition cycle default. |
Use the Clear DTC(s) function of the scan tool to clear the ABS/TCS system DTCs.
The ignition switch must be turned to the OFF position and the scan tool disconnected before performing a road test to check system operation and/or for a DTC reset. This is necessary because the EBTCM will not set DTCs and ABS/TCS control functions are disabled when the scan tool is installed and monitoring the system.
If the ignition switch is cycled 100 times without a particular DTC reappearing, that DTC will be erased from EBTCM memory and the ignition cycle counter for that fault in the EBTCM will be reset to zero.
