Table 1: Ignition Key Can Be Turned to the LOCK Position with the Transaxle Range Switch Out of Park

Problem

Action

The actuator rod is damaged.

Replace the rod as needed.

The sector to the rack is engaged in the incorrect tooth.

  1. Inspect the components.
  2. Service the components as needed.
  3. Reassemble the components

The switch is faulty.

Replace the switch.

  3. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the automatic transaxle control connector terminal C and ground.

  2. Verify that the test lamp is in the same position.

  2. Inspect the steering column electric park lock system.

  1. Repair a short to B+ in CKT 1630.
  2. Inspect the steering column electric park lock system.

  1. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock actuator for mechanical damage. Refer Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Replace the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator if the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator is not damaged.
  3. Inspect the steering column electric park lock system.

  3. Inspect the automatic transaxle control system.

Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the steering column electric park lock connector terminal A and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

Go to Step 6

  1. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator for mechanical damage. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Replace the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator if the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator is not damaged.
  3. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock control system.

Is the repair complete?

Use a test light in order to backprobe between the following steering column electric park lock connector terminals:

    • Terminal A
    • Terminal B

  3. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock control system.

  1. Replace the steering column electric park lock. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock control system.

  1. Repair the following conditions in CKT 150 between the steering column electric park lock connector terminal B and ground:
  2. • A poor condition
    • An open
  3. Inspect the automatic transmission shift lock control system.
