Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Floor Shift

Disassembly Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

    Important: Let the SIR coil assembly hang freely after removal.

  1. Remove the SIR coil assembly. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

    2. Object Number: 330127 Size: SH
  2. Compress the shaft lock shield assembly (2) using J 23653-SIR andJ 42137 .
  3. Remove the bearing retainer (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Dispose of the bearing retainer.
  5. Remove J 23653-SIR andJ 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.

    6. Object Number: 318239 Size: SH
  6. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (5) from the steering shaft assembly.
  7. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) from the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove the upper bearing spring (3) from the steering shaft assembly.
  9. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2) from the steering shaft assembly.
  10. Remove the inner race (1) from the steering shaft assembly.

Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Column Shift

Disassembly Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

    Important: Let the SIR coil assembly hang freely after removal.

  2. Compress the shaft lock shield assembly (2) using J 23653-SIR andJ 42137 .
  3. Remove the bearing retainer (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Dispose of the bearing retainer.
  5. Remove J 23653-SIR andJ 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.

  6. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (5) from the steering shaft assembly.
  7. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) from the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove the upper bearing spring (3) from the steering shaft assembly.
  9. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2) from the steering shaft assembly.
  10. Remove the inner race (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
