• | The IPC detects the park brake is engaged. The IPC receives a discrete input from the park brake switch requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the charge indicator when the following occurs:
• | The powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a discrete input from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the charge indicator. |
• | The ignition is on, with the engine off. |
The DIC illuminates the door ajar indicator when any of the four vehicle doors is open. The DIC receives a discrete input from the corresponding door ajar switch requesting illumination. When this indicator is on the BCM activates the audible warning.
• | The IPC illuminates the TEMP indicator when the PCM determines that the coolant temperature is greater than 128°C (262°F). The IPC receives a discrete input from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the TEMP indicator. |
The DIC illuminates the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator when the PCM determines that the engine oil should be changed. The DIC receives a discrete input from the PCM requesting illumination. When this indicator is on the BCM activates the audible warning. Once the oil is changed, perform the engine oil monitor reset procedure in order to clear the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.
• | The IPC illuminates the LOW OIL LEVEL indicator when the PCM detects a low engine oil level condition. The IPC receives a discrete input from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the LOW OIL LEVEL indicator. |
• | The IPC illuminates the low oil pressure indicator when the engine oil pressure switch detects low oil pressure. The IPC receives a discrete input from the engine oil pressure switch requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the low oil pressure indicator. |
• | The IPC illuminates the fasten safety belt indicator when the body control module (BCM) detects that the driver's seat belt is unbuckled. The IPC receives a discrete input from the BCM requesting illumination. When this indicator is on the BCM activates the audible warning. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the fasten safety belt indicator. |
• | The IPC illuminates the low fuel indicator when the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value. The IPC receives a discrete input from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. When this indicator is on the BCM activates the audible warning. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC illuminates the low fuel indicator. |
The IPC illuminates the high beam indicator when the high beams are on or the flash to pass feature is activated. The IPC receives a discrete input from the headlamp dimmer switch requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the right or left turn signal indicator when a turn signal or a hazard request is received. The IPC receives a discrete input from the turn signal switch requesting illumination. If the BCM determines that the turn signal is active for more than 1.2 km (0.75 mi), the BCM activates the audible warning.
The PCM illuminates the MIL (service engine soon or check engine) when the following occurs:
• | The PCM detects a malfunction in the emissions system. |
• | The PCM performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
• | The ignition is on, with the engine off. |
If the vehicle has a 3.8L V6 supercharged engine the DIC will display the amount of boost the engine is receiving from the PCM (UART serial data line).
If the vehicle has a 3.8L V6 supercharged engine the DIC will display the PERFORMANCE SHIFT indicator when the performance shift button is pressed on the console shift lever. When this indicator is on the vehicle is in the performance shifting mode.
The IPC illuminates the SECURITY indicator as determined by the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) system. The IPC receives a discrete input from the theft deterrent controller module requesting illumination.
• | The VTD system requests the IPC to illuminate the indicator only when the ignition switch is ON. The VTD system uses the indicator as a malfunction indicator. |
• | The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system uses the theft LED and does not use the SECURITY indicator. |
The Body Control Module (BCM) illuminates the theft LED (on top of the dash) based on the current Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system operation mode. The theft LED operates in the following modes:
• | ON |
• | OFF |
• | Flashing slow |
• | Flashing fast |
The DIC illuminates the LOW TRAC indicator when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a discrete input from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The DIC illuminates the TCS OFF (3.8L V6 supercharged engine) or TRAC OFF (3.1L or 3.8L V6 engine) indicator when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) inhibits the traction control system. The IPC receives a discrete input from the EBCM requesting illumination.
