There are 3 different Driver Information Center (DIC) available.
Here is a list of the 3 DIC and their content:
3.1L and 3.8L V6 Engine --U40
• | CHANGE OIL SOON Indicator |
• | Door Ajar Indicator (all 4 doors) |
• | Low Washer Fluid Indicator |
3.1L and 3.8L V6 Engine +L36/L82+U40
• | Door Ajar Indicator (all 4 doors) |
• | Low Washer Fluid Indicator |
• | Traction Button (On/Off) |
3.8L V6 Supercharged Engine +L67+U40
• | Door Ajar Indicator (all 4 doors) |
• | Low Washer Fluid Indicator |
• | PERFORMANCE SHIFT Indicator |
• | Traction Button (On/Off) |
Below is a description of the different functions of the
DIC.
Average Fuel Economy
Average Fuel Economy (AFE) is calculated as the ratio between the following
values:
• | Distance=The accumulated distance since the last AFE reset |
• | Fuel=The accumulated fuel consumption since the last AFE reset |
The DIC receives an UART message from the PCM. You can reset the AFE
mode by pressing the Reset button on the DIC. The value of this mode is
retained during ignition OFF. If the AFE does not appear
in the DIC there is a problem with the UART serial data line. Refer to
Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with UART Data Line
in Data Link Communications.
Engine Oil Life
Engine oil life left % is based on the information it receives from
an UART message from the PCM. The DIC displays the current % of the GM Oil
Life System. When the oil needs changing, the CHANGE OIL
SOON indicator in the DIC turns on. The BCM will sound an audible
warning with this indicator on. When the engine oil is changed the
CHANGE OIL SOON indicator needs to be cleared out of the DIC and
the oil life left needs to be reset. Refer to
GM Oil Life System Resetting
in Maintenance and Lubrication. The value of this mode is
retained during ignition OFF. If the engine oil life does not appear
in the DIC there is a problem with the UART serial data line. Refer to
Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with UART Data Line
in Data Link Communications.
Fuel Range
The DIC calculates and displays the total amount of fuel left since
the last reset operation. The DIC uses the average fuel economy times the fuel
remaining in the tank to determine this value. The DIC receives an UART
message from the PCM. When the fuel level gets low, the word LOW will be
displayed on the DIC and it will chime 3 times. The value of this mode
is retained during ignition OFF. If the fuel range does not
appear in the DIC there is a problem with the UART serial data line. Refer
to
Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with UART Data Line
in Data Link Communications.
Fuel Used
The DIC calculates and displays the total amount of fuel used since
the last reset operation. The DIC receives an UART message from the PCM.
The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF.
If the fuel used does not appear in the DIC there is a problem with the
UART serial data line. Refer to
Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with UART Data Line
in Data Link
Communications.
ENG/MET Button
By pressing the Eng/Met button you can alternate the display units between
English and Metric. The HUD units will also alternate.
Mode Button
This button is used to change the different modes within the DIC.
Reset Button
This button is used to reset values within the DIC. Refer to the descriptions
to find out which items can be reset.
Traction Button (TCS)
This button is used to turn the traction system on and off.
