Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, navigate to the Special Functions, Miscellaneous Test screen.
  5. Select Trunk Release.
  6. Command the trunk release ON.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  3. Observe the Trunk Release Switch parameter in the Keyless Entry/Remote Start data display list.

Connect the fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit.

  1. Access the C1 harness connector of the body control module (BCM).
  2. With a test lamp connected to a good ground, probe the trunk release relay control circuit of the harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. With the test lamp connected to battery positive voltage, probe the trunk release relay control circuit of the harness connector.
  2. Command the trunk release ON.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator circuit of the harness connector and a good ground.
  3. Command the trunk release ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator circuit and the ground circuit of the harness connector.
  2. Command the trunk release ON.

Test the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the trunk release relay control circuit for the following:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the underhood fuse block. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
