SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT A FLICKERING OR STEADY LOW OIL PRESSURE LAMP AT IDLE OR AN OIL ODOR AFTER THE ENGINE HAS REACHED OPERATING TEMPERATURE.
SOME ENGINES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH AN AIR CLEANER OUTLET DUCT THAT HAS A BLOCKED PORT AT THE CONNECTION TO THE CRANKCASE VENT TUBE LOCATED ON THE ENGINE ROCKER COVER. THIS BLOCKED PORT MAY CAUSE A VACUUM TO FORM IN THE ENGINE CRANKCASE DUE TO A LACK OF AIR FLOW INTO THE CRANKCASE FROM THE DUCT.
IF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS EXIST, REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER OUTLET DUCT AT THE END THAT CONNECTS TO THE AIR CLEANER AND INSPECT THE HOLE THAT CONNECTS TO THE CRANKCASE VENT TUBE. IF IT IS BLOCKED, THE DUCT MUST BE REMOVED AND THE BLOCKAGE CORRECTED BEFORE ANY ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS OF THE VEHICLE IS DONE TO PREVENT UNNECESSARY REPAIRS. IF IT IS NOT BLOCKED, THE TECHNICIAN SHOULD PROCEED TO ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS OF THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR, INDICATOR, OR CIRCUIT IN SECTION 8A OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. IF THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL CONCERN, THE TECHNICIAN SHOULD THEN REVIEW ENGINE EXCHANGE BULLETIN 47-61-30 FOR FURTHER DETAIL.
SERVICE INFORMATION
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT (INSPECT ONLY) 1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 2. AIR CLEANER OUTLET DUCT AT THE AIR CLEANER END ONLY. 3. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (IAT). 4. THROTTLE CABLE AT THE CLIP ON TOP OF THE DUCT.
INSPECT BEND THE DUCT SO THAT THE PORT (ITEM 2 AND 3 IN FIGURE 1) THAT CONNECTS TO THE CRANKCASE VENT TUBE IS ACCESSIBLE. SHINE A BRIGHT LIGHT INTO THE PORT CHECKING FOR THE PRESENCE OF ANY RUBBER BLOCKING THE PORT.
IF THE PORT (ITEM 2 AND 3 IN FIGURE 1) IS BLOCKED, REMOVE THE DUCT BEFORE PROCEEDING.
IF THE PORT IS NOT BLOCKED, PROCEED WITH DIAGNOSIS OF THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR, INDICATOR, OR CIRCUIT AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 8A OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. IF THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL CONCERN, THE TECHNICIAN SHOULD THEN REVIEW ENGINE EXCHANGE BULLETIN 47-61-30 FOR FURTHER DETAIL.
REPAIR (IF THE PORT IS BLOCKED) 5. REMOVE THE DUCT AT THE THROTTLE BODY END. USING A 3/8 DRILL BIT AND DRILL MOTOR, CAREFULLY DRILL OUT THE MAJORITY OF THE BLOCKAGE. THEN USING A NEEDLE-NOSE PLIER, PULL OUT ANY PIECES OF RUBBER THAT MAY EVENTUALLY BECOME DETACHED.
USE COMPRESSED AIR TO BLOW ANY LOOSE PARTICLES OUT OF THE DUCT BEFORE REINSTALLATION.
INSTALL OR CONNECT 1. AIR CLEANER OUTLET DUCT, (1) MAKING SURE THE DUCT IS FULLY INSTALLED ON THE VENT TUBE (4). 2. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR (IAT) CONNECTOR (5). 3. THROTTLE CABLE INTO CLIP ON THE TOP OF THE DUCT. 4. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 5. IF THE ABOVE CONDITION STILL EXISTS, PROCEED WITH REVIEW UNDER ENGINE EXCHANGE PROGRAM BULLETIN 47-61-30.
