  1. Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
  2. Remove the PCM/IGN fuse.
  3. Measure the voltage across the battery terminals while the engine is being cranked.

Is the voltage measured equal to or greater than the specified value?

9.6V

Measure the voltage between negative battery terminal and engine block while engine is being cranked.

Is the voltage measured less than specifications?

0.5V

Go to Step 3

Measure the voltage between positive battery terminal and starter solenoid terminal B while engine is being cranked.

Is the voltage measured less than specifications?

0.5V

Go to Step 4

Remove the starter assembly for repairs. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Refer to Battery Load Test .
  2. If battery is OK, remove the starter assembly for repairs. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

  1. Check for poor connections.
  2. If OK, replace negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .
