Is the transmission removed from the vehicle?

Using J 39200 DMM and J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance between terminals A and D at the automatic transmission 4-way connector.

Is the resistance greater than shown?

250K ohms

  1. Remove transmission side cover. Refer to Control Valve Body Disassemble in the 3T40 Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.
  2. Disconnect black wire from the 3rd clutch pressure switch assembly.

Is the resistance greater than shown?

250K ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal A to the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than shown?

250K ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal D to the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than shown?

250K ohms

  1. Disconnect the black wire from the 3rd clutch pressure switch assembly.
  2. Using J 39200 DMM and J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance between terminal A of the automatic transmission 4-way connector and the black wire lead of the TCC solenoid valve.

Is the resistance within the values shown?

19-31 ohms

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the automatic transmission 4-way connector.
  3. Using J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, place a test light from terminal A of the engine side of the automatic transmission 4-way connector to a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the test light On?

Check the ERLS fuse for an open. Refer to General Electrical Diagnosis .

Was the problem found?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect the automatic transmission 4-way connector.
  3. Install a scan tool.
  4. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  5. Operate the vehicle in D2 (2nd gear) to obtain 64 km/h (40 mph).
  6. View the scan tool TCC Enable parameter.

When it is enabled, does the TCC engage (a noticeable decrease in engine rpm)?

  1. Operate the vehicle in D3 (3rd gear) to obtain 64 km/h (40 mph).
  2. View the scan tool TCC Enable parameter.

Check wire from the TCC solenoid valve to the 3rd clutch pressure switch assembly for a short to ground. Refer to General Electrical Diagnosis .

Was the problem found?

  1. Remove transmission side cover. Refer to Control Valve Body Disassemble in the 3T40 Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.
  2. Disconnect black wire from the 3rd clutch pressure switch assembly.
  3. Using J 39200 DMM and J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance from terminal A of the automatic transmission 4-way connector to the black wire lead of the TCC solenoid valve.

Is the resistance as shown?

19-31 ohms

Inspect the transmission internal wiring harness assembly for the wires being shorted together.

Refer to General Electrical Diagnosis .

Replace the internal wiring harness assembly.

Refer to TCC Solenoid and Switches Replacement.
