Headlamp Replacement Chevrolet

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the upper air intake splash shield. Refer to Hood Close Out Filler Replacement in Body Front End.

  3. Object Number: 280076  Size: SH
  4. Remove the headlamp assembly bolts.
  5. Caution: Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:

       • Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
       • Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
       • Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
       • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
       • Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
       • Properly dispose of the used bulb.
       • Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.

  6. Remove the socket/bulb (4).
  7. Remove the housing/lens assembly from the bracket.
  8. Remove the screws and the adjusters if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the headlamp housing/lens to the bracket assembly.
  2. Install the socket/bulb (4).
  3. Align the slots and twist the bulb.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the headlamp assembly bolts (5).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Install the upper air intake splash shield. Refer to Hood Close Out Filler Replacement in Body Front End.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Inspect the headlamp for proper operation.
  9. Aim the headlamps according to the to the manufacturer's instructions. Refer to Headlamp Aiming .

Removal Procedure

  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
