THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO CHANGE PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION CRITERIA AND TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. THIS BULLETIN REPLACES BULLETIN 93-3-5 ISSUED 3/93. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 93-3-5.
This bulletin serves to cancel and supersede torque specifications for the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly attaching bolts found in Section 3D of the 1990-93 Trans Sport Service Manuals. The bolts attach the rear hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle (four on each side).
Rear hub and wheel bearing assembly attaching bolts for all Trans Sport vehicles should be torqued using the following guidelines:
* Vehicles manufactured from model year 1990 through 1992 require a torque specification of 63 N.m (46 lb.ft.).
* Vehicles manufactured in model year 1993 and beyond require a torque specification of 82 N.m (61 lb.ft.).
This change is a result of the required torque distinction between unpainted and painted bearing surfaces and not the type of bolt being used.
The 1990-93 Service Manual for Section 3D should be updated.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
