Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the crossover heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  2. Remove the crossover nuts to the right manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement

  3. Remove the EGR tube.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Support in General Information
  5. Remove the oxygen sensor.
  6. Remove the catalytic converter pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  7. Remove the transaxle oil fill tube. Refer to Transaxle in Automatic Transmission On-Vehicle Service.

  9. Remove the heat shield bolts.

  10. Object Number: 61831  Size: SH
  11. Remove the heat shields
  12. Remove the manifold nuts.
  13. Remove the manifold from the side of the engine.
  14. Remove the gasket.
  15. Clean the mating surfaces at the cylinder head and manifold.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the right exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the right exhaust manifold.
  3. Install the right exhaust manifold nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 16  N·m (12 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the heat shields

  7. Install the manifold nuts.
  8. Install the automatic transaxle fluid filler tube. Refer to Automatic Transaxle.
  9. Install the exhaust/catalytic converter pipe to manifold. Refer to Exhaust Catalytic Converter in Exhaust System.
  10. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Oxygen Sensor in Driveability and Emissions.
  11. Install the EGR tube.
  12. Install the crossover nuts. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  13. Install the crossover heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement
  14. Inspect for exhaust leaks.

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the air cleaner duct.
  3. Remove the crossover heat shield screws and heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  4. Install the crossover pipe nuts and crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  5. Remove the engine strut bolt and strut. Refer the Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  6. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  7. Remove the A/C compressor and reposition. Refer to Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  8. Remove the engine mount strut and A/C bracket. Refer the Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  9. Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield screws and shield.
  10. Remove the nuts.
  11. Remove the left exhaust manifold.
  12. Remove the left exhaust manifold gasket.
  13. Clean the exhaust manifold and cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 54301  Size: SH
  1. Install the left exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the left exhaust manifold.
  3. Install the left exhaust manifold nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 16  N·m (12 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield.
  6. Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10  N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket.
  9. Install the exhaust crossover pipe and shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  10. Connect the heater pipe from heater core to coolant pump.
  11. Install the A/C compressor and reposition. Refer to Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  12. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  13. Install the engine strut bolt and Strut. Refer the Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  14. Install the crossover pipe nuts and crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  15. Install the crossover heat shield screws and heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement .
  16. Install the air cleaner duct.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
