Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
    • J 28467-200 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
    • J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter
  1. Install the J 28467-360 , and the J 28467-90 and the J 28467-200 .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Support in General Information.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove the oil filter drip shield, the bolts and shield.
  5. Remove the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Refer to Exhaust Pipe from Manifold in Exhaust System.
  6. Place the jack stands under the frame at the front and rear.
  7. Remove the engine mount to frame nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  8. Remove the transaxle mounts to frame nuts. Refer to Transaxle Mounts in Automatic Transaxle.
  9. Loosen the rear frame bolts, do not remove the bolts.
  10. Remove the front frame bolts and lower the front of the frame.
  11. Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement
  12. Remove the engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  13. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter in Cranking System.
  14. Remove the transaxle brace. Refer to Transaxle Brace in Automatic Transaxle.
  15. Remove the oil level wiring harness connector.
  16. Remove the oil pan side bolts.
  17. Remove the oil pan bottom bolts.
  18. Remove the oil pan.
  19. Clean the following parts:
  20. • The oil pan flanges
    • The oil pan rail
    • The front cover
    • The rear main bearing cap
    • The threaded holes

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter
    • J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
    •  J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
    •  J 28467-200 Engine Support Fixture Adapter

    Important: Apply a small amount of sealer GM P/N 1234579 or equivalent on either side of the rear main bearing cap, where the seal surface on the cap meets the cylinder block.

  1. Install the oil pan gasket.
  2. Install the oil pan.
  3. Install the retaining bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the side bolts. Use the J 39505 .
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan. Refer to Transaxle Brace in Automatic Transaxle.
  8. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor in Cranking System.
  9. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
  10. Install the engine mount bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement
  11. Install the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  12. Raise the drivetrain and the front suspension frame bolts.

  14. Install the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts.
  15. Install the engine mount frame side nuts to the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  16. Install the transaxle mount frame side nuts from the drivetrain and suspension frame. Refer to Transaxle Mounts in Automatic Transaxle.
  17. Remove the floor stands from the drivetrain and the front suspension frame.
  18. Install the engine splash shield.

  20. Install the oil level sensor.
  21. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt.
  22. Install the front exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe in Exhaust System.
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Remove the J 28467-360 . and the J 28467-90 and the J 28467-200
  25. Install the electric engine cooling fan.

  27. Install the engine mount strut bracket to the engine.
  28. Install the right engine mount strut to the engine.
  29. Install the hood panel.
  30. Add engine oil.
