Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner cover and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Element Replacement
in
Engine Controls.
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
Important: Cap or tape the open suction lines and accumulator to prevent contamination
of the refrigerant system.
- Disconnect the evaporator
suction line from the accumulator. Discard the O-ring seal and cap or tape
the open line and accumulator.
- Disconnect the compressor
suction line from the accumulator. Discard the O-ring seal and cap or tape
the open line and the accumulator.
- Remove the retaining strap
mounting bolt (1).
- Remove the accumulator and mounting strap from the vehicle.
- Remove the retaining strap
pinch bolt and remove retaining strap from the accumulator.
Installation Procedure
- Install the accumulator
into the retaining strap.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the retaining
strap pinch bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5.5 N·m (49 lb in).
- Install the accumulator and retaining strap assembly into the
vehicle.
- Install the retaining
strap mounting bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5.5 N·m (49 lb in).
- Remove the cap or tape from the suction lines.
- Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing
surfaces of suction lines and accumulator.
- Lightly coat the new O-ring seals with the mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
Important: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant
oil on the new O-ring seals to enter the refrigerant system.
- Carefully slide the new
O-ring seal (1) onto the evaporator suction line until seated
- Carefully slide the new
O-ring seal (1) onto the compressor suction line until seated.
Allow a light coating of the refrigerant oil to remain on the suction
line fitting in the area indicated (2) ONLY.
- Connect the suction lines
to the accumulator.
Tighten
• | Tighten the evaporator suction line fitting to 47 N·m
(35 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the compressor suction line bolt to 16 N·m
(12 lb ft). |
- Evacuate, charge and leak test the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Install the air cleaner cover and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Element Replacement
in
Engine Controls.
