05 FWD Pontiac Vibe - Brief Whine Noise When Parked with the Engine Off - kw amp battery cold diagnostics draw EVAP garage motor parasitic power pump test

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Some customers may notice a whine or "motor type" of noise coming from underneath the rear cargo area of their 2005 Pontiac Vibe (FWD Only). This noise will occur after the vehicle has been parked for approximately 5 hours and it may last for several minutes.

This noise is a normal concern. The 2005 Model Year, Front Wheel Drive, Pontiac Vibe is equipped with an EVAP diagnostic vacuum pump. This pump is energized to perform an EVAP vacuum leak test after the vehicle has been parked with the engine off for approximately 5 hours. Some customers may hear this pump when it is energized, especially when the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area. Note: Page 9 or 10 of the "Getting to Know Your Vibe" brochure also outlines this normal characteristic. The vehicle was delivered with this brochure in the glove box. Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
