Makes 🢒 Pontiac 🢒 2006 🢒 Vibe - FWD 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Mechanical - 1.8L (LV6) 🢒 Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
    3. •  Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -- MU5 for all wheel drive automatic transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -- MU4 for 4-speed automatic transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission -- MK5 for 5-speed manual transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission -- MTN for 6-speed manual transaxle
  3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.

    4. Object Number: 236523 Size: SH
  4. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .

    5. Object Number: 236248 Size: SH

    Important: To protect the crankshaft from damage, wrap the tip of the screwdriver with tape.

  5. Use a screwdriver and pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 236250 Size: SH
  1. Apply multi-purpose grease to the new crankshaft rear oil seal lip.

    2. Important: Tap the oil seal in until its surface is flush with the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer edge.

  2. Using a hammer, lightly tap the crankshaft rear oil seal into place.

    3. Object Number: 236523 Size: SH
  3. Install the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  4. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  5. Install the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
    6. •  Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -- MU5 for all wheel drive automatic transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission -- MU4 for 4-speed automatic transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission -- MK5 for 5-speed manual transaxle
    •  Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission -- MTN for 6-speed manual transaxle

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
