Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure
plate. Refer to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Remove
the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
Important: To protect the crankshaft from damage, wrap
the tip of the screwdriver with tape.
- Use a screwdriver and pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal.
Installation Procedure
- Apply
multi-purpose grease to the new crankshaft rear oil seal lip.
Important: Tap the oil seal in until its surface is
flush with the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer edge.
- Using a hammer, lightly tap the crankshaft rear oil seal into place.
- Install
the flywheel. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
- If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure
plate. Refer to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Install the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
