- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
- Remove the left hand side engine splash shield.
- Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install a new gasket and the drain plug and tighten to
49 N·m (36 ft lb).
Note: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Remove all the oil pan bolts, and carefully remove the oil pan sub-assembly.
- Remove the bolts and remove the oil pan and oil pan gasket.
- Remove the magnets (1) from the oil pan.
- Examine the particles in the oil pan.
Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Look carefully
at the chips and particles in the pan and on the magnets to see the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.

Note: Perform the operation carefully as some fluid will come out from the oil strainer.
- Remove the bolts (1) and remove the oil strainer.
- Remove the oil strainer gasket (1) from the oil strainer.
- Disconnect the connectors (1).
- Remove the bolt and lock plate and remove the ATF temperature sensor (2).
- Remove the bolts (3) and remove the manual detent spring cover and manual detent spring (1).
Note: Do not drop the check ball body, check ball body spring or accumulator piston.
- Remove the bolts (1) and remove the valve body assembly.
- Remove the check ball body (2) and check ball body spring (1).
- Remove the transaxle case 2nd brake gaskets (1, 2).
- Remove the manual valve from the valve body.
- Remove the bolt (1) and pull out the shift solenoid valve S1.
- Remove the bolt (1) and pull out the shift solenoid valve S2.
- Remove the bolt (1) and the solenoid lock plate.
- Pull out the shift solenoid valve SLU.
- Remove the bolts (4, 6) and No. 3 solenoid lock plate from the valve body.
- Pull out the shift solenoid valve ST from the valve body.
- Remove the No. 1 solenoid lock plate from the shift solenoid valve SLT.
- Pull out the shift solenoid valve SLT from the valve body.
