Transmission Hold Mode Inoperative

Circuit/System Description

The transmission hold switch is an input to the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The switch signal circuit is supplied a reference voltage from the IPC. When the hold switch is pressed the reference voltage is closed to ground. When the reference voltage is low the switch is determined to be active.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is greater than 9.5 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The hold switch signal circuit is low for greater than 60 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The transmission hold mode will be disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The current DTC clears when the fault is no longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Hold Switch parameter while pressing and releasing the hold switch. The reading should change between Active and Inactive.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the hold switch.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Hold Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 1 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ground circuit terminal 2. Verify the scan tool Hold Switch parameter is Active.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the hold switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
