The vehicle identification number (VIN) plate is the legal identifier of the vehicle (1). The VIN plate is located on the upper LH corner of the instrument panel (I/P) and can be seen through the windshield from the outside of the vehicle:

A VIN derivative can be used to determine if a vehicle contains the original engine or transmission by matching the VIN derivative positions to their accompanying positions in the complete VIN. |
