- Inspect the timing sprocket teeth on the crankshaft,
camshaft, and key for wear.
- Inspect the camshaft thrust plate and sprocket thrust surface for cracks
and wear.
- Inspect the tension for operation:
6.1. | Release the plunger lock and make sure the piston moves freely. |
6.2. | Make sure the oil feed hole is open and not plugged. |
6.3. | Submerge the tensioner in oil or solvent. |
6.4. | Depress the plunger and observe fluid flow from the tensioner body. |
6.5. | Inspect the cylinder block port for blockage. |
6.6. | Measure the plunger travel, chain and guides installed. |
