  1. Inspect the timing chain for wear, damage, and cracks.
  2. Inspect the chain for damaged links.
  3. Specifications

  4. Inspect the chain guides for wear and cracks.
  5. Specifications

    Chain Track Wear

  6. Inspect the timing sprocket teeth on the crankshaft, camshaft, and key for wear.
  7. Inspect the camshaft thrust plate and sprocket thrust surface for cracks and wear.

  9. Inspect the tension for operation:
  10. 6.1. Release the plunger lock and make sure the piston moves freely.
    6.2. Make sure the oil feed hole is open and not plugged.
    6.3. Submerge the tensioner in oil or solvent.
    6.4. Depress the plunger and observe fluid flow from the tensioner body.
    6.5. Inspect the cylinder block port for blockage.
    6.6. Measure the plunger travel, chain and guides installed.
