The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) (SERVICE ENGINE SOON telltale lamp) may be On with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0327 (Knock Sensor Circuit) present or stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) malfunction history.
Condition may be present because the initial DTC P0327 diagnostic calibration did not allow for normal build variation.
Install service PCM calibration if indicated in the following procedure.
• | The Tech 2 displays the "Controller Part Number" parameter within the "Vehicle System Information" table. |
• | The portable diagnostic tool (PDT) displays the "PCM Part #" parameter within the "Vehicle ID" table. |
• | If the controller/PCM part number does not match one of the numbers listed in the "New End Model" column below, then reprogram the PCM. (Refer to "Reprogramming EEPROM" in the "Service Stall System User Guide") |
• | If the controller/PCM part number does match one of the numbers listed in the "New End Model" Column below, refer to DTC P0327 diagnostics in the 1998 - 1999 model year "Powertrain Controls Service Manual." |
Important: Version 44.50 or greater Service Stall System (SSS) software is required for this re-calibration process. Verify the SSS is version 44.50 or greater.
If SSS version 44.50 or greater is not available, call the Saturn Customer Support Center at 1-800-7SATURN (1-800-772-8876), prompt 3. In Canada, call 1-800-828-6860 for English, or 1-800-503-3222 for French.

1. Use the Scan tool to verify complaint has been corrected by monitoring ESC PASS COUNTER for 20 seconds after engine start up.
• | If ESC PASS COUNTER is greater than or equal to three, complaint has been corrected. |
• | If ESC PASS COUNTER is less than or equal to two, refer to DTC P0327 diagnostics in 1998--1999 model year "Powertrain Controls Service Manual." |
