Delayed Activation of Automatic Headlamps in Low Ambient Light Conditions (Reprogram Body Control Module (BCM))

Subject:Delayed Activation of Automatic Headlamps in Low Ambient Light Conditions (Reprogram Body Control Module [BCM])

Models:2004-2005 Saturn VUE Vehicles with Automatic Headlamps

Attention: Fixed Operations Manager and Technician

Condition

Some customers may comment on delayed activation of the automatic headlamps in low ambient light conditions (dusk or dawn). The customer may comment that the headlamps have to be manually turned on prior to automatic headlamp activation.

Cause

The software in the BCM that measures the voltage from the ambient light sensor may not allow for enough build variation in the light sensor.

Correction

Important: BCM or ambient light sensor replacement is not necessary.

Reprogram BCM with new calibration.

Service Procedure

Reprogram the body control module (BCM) using the latest Saturn Service Stall system (TIS data CD 3.0/2005 or later). Refer to "Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration" (SI Document ID #1201750) in the Body Control System subsection of the Body section of the 2004 or 2005 Saturn VUE Service Manual, Vol. 2.
