Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform Saturn retailers of changes to several bolt torque specifications for the 2005 VUE rear suspension.

Rear Upper Control Arm-to-Support Assembly Bolt Torque Specification

The "Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement" procedure in the Rear Suspension subsection of the Suspension section of the 2005 Saturn VUE Service Manual, Vol. 1 (SI Document ID #1563400) has an updated torque specification for the upper control arm-to-support assembly bolt. The correct specification is 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).

Please go to Step 5 of the "Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement" procedure (page 3-67 in the printed Manual) and cross out 110 N·m(81 lb-ft). Write in the new specification of 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).

Toe Link-to-Support Assembly Bolt Torque Specification

The "Toe Link Replacement" procedure in the Rear Suspension subsection of the Suspension section of the 2005 Saturn VUE Service Manual, Vol. 1 (SI Document ID #1563388) has an updated torque specification for the toe link-to-support assembly bolt. The correct specification is 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).

Please go to Step 4 of the "Toe Link Replacement" procedure (page 3-91 in the printed Manual) and cross out 95 N·m(70 lb-ft). Write in the new specification of 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).

Rear Suspension Fastener Tightening Specifications Table

The Rear Suspension Fastener Tightening Specifications table (page 3-53 in the printed Manual, SI Document ID #1563387) must also be updated as follows:

    • Locate the line for "Upper Control Arm-to-Support Assembly Bolts" and cross out 110 N·m(81 lb-ft). Write in the new specification of 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).
    • Locate the line for "Toe Link-to-Support Bolts" and cross out 95 N·m(70 lb-ft). Write in the new specification of 160 N·m(118 lb-ft).
