Subject: | Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Shudder/Vibration (Install New TCM Calibration) |
Models: | 2003 Saturn VUE (2WD models only) |
with 2.2L L4 Engine (VIN D - RPO L61) and VT25E Transaxle (RPO M75) |
Attention: | Technician |
Some customers may comment on a vibration when the vehicle speed reaches approximately 40-45 mph (64-72 km/h). The shudder or vibration is present at the above mph range during light throttle application and will remain as long as the engine load remains constant during these conditions.
The condition may be caused by inadequate TCC damper capacity.
Perform the following diagnostic procedure and, if necessary, install a new TCM calibration based on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
If commanding the TCC off did NOT eliminate the condition, refer to the 2002-2003 Chassis VUE Service Manual for additional diagnostic assistance.
If commanding the TCC off did eliminate the condition, install the correct updated calibration from the calibration information table provided in this bulletin.
Important: Install the service calibration for customer comment vehicles only. Inform the customer that the calibration fix may cause a reduction in vehicle fuel economy.
Notice: Ensure the correct calibration is installed according to the VIN. Incorrect reprogramming of the TCM will adversely affect transmission performance.
Install one of the following TCM calibrations based on the VIN. Calibrations will be available on TIS Data Release 3.0 CD Version 3.2 03/2003.
