Did you review the Seat Belt System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Operational and Functional Checks

2

  1. Observe the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF status indicator located in the instrument panel (I/P).
  2. Important: When the ignition is turned ON, both ON and OFF indicators will turn ON for 5 seconds.

  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF status indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 3

Go to Passenger Presence System Indicator Circuit Malfunction

3

  1. Sit in the front passenger seat and observe the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF indicator which contains the passenger seat belt indicator.
  2. Important: The fasten seat belt indicator should turn ON when the passenger seat belt is unbuckled while your sitting in the front passenger seat and the ignition is ON.

  3. Monitor the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF status indicator while buckling and unbuckling the passenger seat belt.

Does the passenger safety belt indicator turn ON and OFF when the passenger seat belt is unbuckled and buckled?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 4

4

  1. Buckle the front passenger seat belt.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Passenger Seat Belt Status parameter in the SIR scan tool data list, refer to Scan Tool Data List in SIR.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Passenger Seat Belt Status parameter displays Buckled?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster (IPC) connector. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
  3. Disconnect the Passenger Air Bag ON/OFF status indicator connector. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Indicator Replacement in SIR.
  4. Test the Passenger Seat Belt indicator circuit for the following:
  5. • an open
    • high resistance
    • short to voltage

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 6

6

Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10
