The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment that the Oil Indicator light in the instrument panel is illuminated. Diagnosis may find that there is very low or zero oil pressure. The oil pressure bypass plunger located in the oil filter adapter may be stuck. This may
be caused by machining debris (metallic particles) or surface irregularities in the bore that the plunger is located in.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Remove the oil filter adapter from the timing chain cover and check to see if the spring-loaded plunger moves freely in the bore. If the plunger sticks in the bore when pushed fully in, remove the plunger and inspect the bore for evidence of metallic
debris or mis-machining. If debris is found, clean as necessary and verify that the plunger moves freely when reinstalled. If the surface of the bore shows evidence of mis-machining (grooves, uneven smoothness along the deeper areas of the bore), replace the
front cover and plunger. On vehicles with mis-machined bores, contact Technical Assistance (TAC) and enter a case.
If a concern is not found with oil pressure bypass plunger continue with normal diagnostics including checking cam, rod and main bearings.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
