The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that the low oil pressure light is illuminated when the engine is at idle or at low speeds (RPM's). Some may also comment that the light goes out when the engine is running at higher RPM's. The # 3 cam bearing may have become partially or completely unseated from the bore in the engine block. If the bearing has become completely unseated from the block it may be found loose on the camshaft or in some instances may be found in the oil pan.
Important: This condition is different than the # 2 cam bearing issue described in Inventory Upgrade Bulletin # 05562 (October 2005). Do NOT use the information in that bulletin to identify this # 3 cam bearing issue.
At the present time Engineering is evaluating engines that have been returned to identify the cause of the bearing to become unseated. Because the bore in the engine block may have been damaged when the cam bearing became partially unseated or completely unseated, the recommended repair at this time is to replace the complete engine assembly.
This document will be updated and/or a service bulletin published when additional information becomes available.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
