The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Instructions for adding GM (General Motors) Accessories Remote Vehicle Start (RVS) to AP8 equipped vehicle.

Remote Vehicle Start:

The vehicle must have the extended range keyless entry option (AP8) for this kit to add remote vehicle start. Otherwise, the vehicle does not have the required hood ajar switch and wiring, and remote control door lock receiver. The vehicle must also have an automatic transmission. Adding remote vehicle start requires programming of the vehicle. This is done with a Service Programming System. The installer needs to call the Techline Customer Support Center (TCSC). The TCSC will provide a Vehicle Configuration Index (VCI). The VCI is good for only one specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Tools required:

Scan Tool (with Pass Thru programming capability)

Service Programming System (SPS - TIS 2000 or equivalent system with Pass Thru programming capability)

Also required:

Surface Cleaner (50% isopropyl alcohol, FS-1082 hi-flash naphtha or equivalent)

Procedure:

Important: Please review this entire procedure before trying to perform it.

1. Verify the vehicle has the AP8 option and an automatic transmission. This can be done by using the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) or the vehicle's Service Parts ID Label. Call TCSC (1-888-337-1010) to obtain a VCI number. You must have the vehicle's VIN that will be upgraded and the following Authorization Code:

This will allow you to access the software to enable the remote vehicle start option.

2. Prepare a Scan Tool and SPS terminal for pass thru programming and connect them to the vehicle. Turn the ignition On, leaving the engine Off, and establish communications with the vehicle.
3. On the SPS terminal navigate to the remote start setup for the vehicle. Select "Remote Start Enable" and follow the on screen directions. Future programming events for this vehicle will not require a VCI number to access the remote vehicle start software.

Notice: Before programming, the following conditions must be met, or body control module damage may occur:

•	The Tech 2 and the SPS terminal must have the latest software.

•	Vehicle system voltage

•	There is not a charging system concern. All charging system concerns must be repaired before programming a control module.

•	Vehicle system voltage is greater than 12 volts but less than 16 volts. The battery must be charged before programming the control module if the vehicle system voltage is low.

•	A battery charger is NOT connected to the vehicle's battery. Voltage fluctuations from a battery charger may cause programming failure.

•	Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicle's battery, such as the following components:

•	Twilight sentinel

•	Interior lights

•	Daytime running lights (DRL) - Applying the parking brake, on most vehicles, disables the DRL system. Refer to the Owner's manual.

•	Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) Systems

•	Engine cooling fans, radio, etc.

•	The ignition switch must be in the proper position. The Tech 2 prompts you to turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. DO NOT change the position of the ignition switch during the programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.

•	Make certain all tool connections are secure, including the following components and circuits:

•	The RS-232 communication cable port

•	The connection at the data link connector (DLC)

•	DO NOT disturb the tool harnesses while programming. If an interruption occurs during the programming procedure, programming failure or control module damage may occur.

•

DO NOT turn OFF the ignition if the programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure that all control module and DLC connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram the control module. If the control module cannot be programmed, replace the control module.

Important: After programming, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis:

•	Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.

•	Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.

•	Using a scan tool, retrieve any history Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all of the modules.

•	Clear all history DTCs.

4. Program the new transmitters to the remote control door lock receiver using the scan tool.

Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

•	Using a scan tool, access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs.

•	Press the START soft key on the scan tool.

Important: The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed.

•	Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of 5-10 seconds, the scan tool will indicate that the transmitter is programmed.

•	Repeat the previous step in order to program up to 4 transmitters.

•	Remove the scan tool.

•	Operate the transmitter functions to verify correct system operation.

5. Apply label to a smooth surface of the vehicle near the existing Service Parts ID Label. This label is for future service parts identification.

•	Do not place label over top of any existing labels.

•	The surface temperature should not be less than 65°F (21°C).

-	Clean the vehicle surface with a suitable solvent (50%) isopropyl alcohol, FS-1062 hi-flash naphtha or equivalent).

-	Dry the surface with a clean cloth.

-	Peel the liner from the backside of the label, being careful not to touch the adhesive or allow dirt or any foreign material to come in contact with it.

-	Carefully align the label to the surface, press firmly, and smooth out.

6. Add transmitters to the customer's key rings.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
