Subject: Fuel Gage Reads Backwards After Changing Fuel Level Sensor (Sender Card) / Fuel Level Sensor Change

Models:2007 Buick LaCrosse and Allure (Canada Only)
2007 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo
2007 Pontiac Grand Prix

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The fuel gage may read backwards after the fuel level sensor (sender card) is replaced. The resistance readings for the fuel level sensor has changed for the 2007 Model Year (MY).

Recommendation/Instructions:

The resistance of the fuel level sensor for the 2007 MY is 40 ohms when the fuel tank is full and 250 ohms when the fuel tank is empty.

On the 2006 MY, the resistance of the fuel level sensor is 250 ohms when the fuel tank is full and 40 ohms when empty.

For this reason when replacing a fuel level sensor, the 2007 MY part number must be used for the 2007 vehicles and the 2006 MY parts must be used on the 2006 vehicles. The fuel level sensor is not interchangeable between the model years.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
