4.3L V6 DIESEL CAST IRON CYLINDER HEADS

THE 4.3L (VIN T) V-6 DIESEL ENGINE IS NOW BEING PRODUCED WITH CAST IRON CYLINDER HEADS. THE EASIEST WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ALUMINUM AND CAST IRON CYLINDER HEAD IS BY USING A MAGNET. WHEN THIS ENGINE IS EQUIPPED WITH CAST IRON CYLINDER HEADS, THE ROCKER ARM PIVOT ATTACHMENT WILL BE THE SAME AS THAT ON THE 4.3L (VIN V) DIESEL ENGINE. REFER TO THE 1982 CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL PAGE 6A6-20 FOR THIS INFORMATION. IT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY TO USE ANY ANTI-SIEZE MATERIAL ON FASTENERS THAT THREAD INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD. ALL OTHER SERVICE PROCEDURES REMAIN THE SAME.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
