Generator belt damage on the above models may be due to the belt contacting a bolt head on the power steering pump bracket.
If this condition is encountered, inspect the bracketry installation. Vehicles equipped with air conditioning should have the flat washer under the adjustment bolt head removed. See illustration.
In addition a new belt is being released for replacement. The new belt part number 10034798 will not be available for approximately 60 days. Until this belt is available, part number 10029075, which is the current Fiero belt, should be used.
Replacement belts should be tensioned to 650N (145 lbs.).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
