Some 1987 Centurys equipped with the LB6 2.8L MPFI V6 engine (VIN Code W) may set a false code 43. The false code will be set under a deep, part throttle acceleration between 3400 and 4400 engine rpm. The "Service Engine Soon" light will come on and generally stay on until the ignition is turned off. A code 43 will be stored.
If normal diagnostic procedures, as found in the 1987 Buick Chassis Service Manual, Section 6E3, (for faulty knock sensor, "intermittents", faulty connections, or open or shorted wiring) don't correct the problem, a new Mem-Cal must be installed as per the following chart:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
