Some 1987 models equipped with a 3.8L SFI engine (VIN Code 3) may experience one or more of the following conditions:
o Engine will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold (with proper fuel pressure and no leak down).
o Engine intermittently won't stay running on decel under closed throttle conditions (with proper scanner readings and minimum air rate).
o An intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light with a stored false code 32 on Centurys, LeSabres, and Electras/Park Avenues, or a false code E032 on Rivieras.
If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new service PROM.
These PROM's are currently available through General Motors Parts Operation under the following part numbers:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
