LOCKING WHEELS AND WIRE WHEEL COVERS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL MODELS -----------------

The custom locking wire wheel Cover package (Option N91/N95) is shipped in the trunk compartment.

At the time of delivery of a new vehicle by the carrier, the contents of the package containing Option N91/N95 are to be inspected for missing or incorrect parts.

Any discrepancies are to be noted on the delivery receipt and a transportation claim is to be filed for any missing or incorrect parts.

The same procedure described above should be followed for all locking wheels and wheel covers.

Replacement of Missing, Incorrect or Lost Parts

Canadian Service Parts Operations are currently stocking and servicing some wheel wrenches.

The following types are currently available through GM Parts: Norris Industries', ITT Thompson and Randel Textron (formerly Rockwell).

The types manufactured by McGard Inc. and American Accessories (AMCOR) will continue to be only available' through their distributors.

We have put together an attached chart to aid in identifying the various types now in service in order to facilitate the parts required for replacement.

Norris Industries

This design can be identified by the 'T' shaped lock key wrench or by the SCALLOP PATTERN on the lock BOLT. (Fig. 1) There are 5 code letters and 5 corresponding colours to distinguish the different patterns. The pattern can be identified by the colour of the lock bolt of the code letter on the lead of the lock bolt. The following are the code letters and colours used.

A - Red 22511261 H - Gold 25511258 B - Green 22511260 L - Black 22511257 C - Brown 22511259 - Orange 22528120

This design can be identified by the black 'L' shaped lock key wrench or by the CURVED GROOVE PATTERN on the lock BOLT. (Fig. 2) There are colour codes that can be found on both the lock bolt and the lock key wrench. The 6 colour codes are: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Gold and Orange.

This design has a lock key wrench with a flat handle and a HOLE PATTERN on the lock NUT. (Fig 3) The lock nut is colour coded. The key wrench is colour coded also and has a corresponding letter inside of the base.

Offset 'T' shaped lock key wrench and SPLINE PATTERN on LOCK NUT. (Spline pattern is larger in diam!ater then the ITT Thompson system). (Fig. 4) Both lock nut and wrench have colour codes. THE WHEEL COVER EMBLEM IS RETAINED by 4 clips.

Wire Wheel Cover (Randel Textron formerly Rockwell)

Offset 'T' shaped lock key wrench and a GROOVE PATTERN on the lock NUT. (Fig, 5) The wrench has a coloured plastic cap on top of the cylinder portion with a corresponding letter stamped in the metal.

ITT Thompson Industries

Identification of this type can be made by the 'T' shaped lock key wrench or by the SPLINE PATTERN on the lock NUT. (Fig. 6) There are colour codes that can be found on both the lock nut and the lock key wrench. The 6 colour codes are: Red, Gold, Blue, Olive, Black and Silver.

LOCKING WHEEL NUTS FOR ALUMINUM WHEELS AND AUTHENTIC WIRE WHEELS

McGard

McGard locking wheel nuts are used with either aluminum or authentic wire wheels. You can obtain a replacement key wrench and master set using the same procedure as for McGard wire wheel disc locks. (See page 6 for details).

Refer to Fig. 7 for identification of this design. The same ten colours are used as with the McGard locking wheel discs.

LOCKING WHEEL NUTS FOR ALUMINUM WHEELS AND AUTHENTIC WIRE WHEELS

An additional McGard system is in use. Examples of this system can be seen on late 1984 - and 1985 Corvettes, and 1984 Fieros. (Fig. 8) These wrenches are shrouded and have a larger pattern than other McGard systems. You can obtain a replacement key wrench and master set using the same procedure as for McGard wire wheel disc locks. (See page 6 for details).

McGard Wire Wheel Disc-Locks

The McGard system can be identified by the black 'T' shaped wrench or by the design and location of the locking bolt (Fig. 9). There are ten different colours of locking bolts, which must match the colour stripe on the wrench. These colours are light green, dark green, orange, grey, light blue, dark blue, yellow, white, purple, and red.

All McGard lock key wrench must be obtained directly from McGard. All lock key wrench orders must be placed using the McGard order form or on Dealership stationery. All inquiries should be directed to:

The master wrench set can be obtained from McGard with a covering letter of approval from your Zone Office.

All parts for the locking wire wheel disc other than the lock key wrench can be obtained through the Parts Department.

American Accessories (Amcor)

This system can be seen on Fifteenth Anniversary Firebirds (1984) and 1985 Fieros. (Fig. 10)
