Some 1987 'A' cars equipped with 2.5L LR8 engines, automatic transmissions, and 2.84 transaxle may exhibit driveability concerns such as idle shake, sag on a tip-in maneuver from a standing start, when engine is at operating temperature, and a stall on the same light tip in maneuver if done immediately after a cold start at ambient temperatures 80 degrees to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
After routine shop manual diagnostic procedures have been tried and the customer comments have not been resolved, a new service PROM should be installed. The service PROM part numbers and applications are as follows:
SERVICE PROM APPLICATION
P/N 16072828 Chevrolet and Pontiac LR8-MD9-FI7
P/N 16072835 Oldsmobile and Buick LR8-MD9-Fl7
Use applicable labor time for PROM replacement.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
